Day 1 - Caen - Memorial
Morning departure, drive west past Reims and Paris. Upon afternoon arrival at Caen we’ll visit the Memorial Museum to introduce us to the events of D-Day and the summer of 1944. Then we check into our hotel. Dinner at hotel restaurant.
Day 2 - Mont St. Michel
After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we will discover one of France’s architectural wonders: The Mont Saint-Michel, an island rising dramatically from the sea with its medieval abbey is one of the most recognizable landmarks of France. Begun in 966 AD it became one of Europe’s major pilgrimage destinations. Dinner at hotel restaurant.
Day 3 - Landing Beaches
We begin the day at Utah Beach with it’s sand dunes and shallow waters. View the memorial and the remains of German bunkers along the beach. Drive to St Mère Eglise, time to visit the Airborne Museum. After lunch, we’re off to Pointe du Hoc, an impressive stronghold of Hitler’s “Atlantic Wall.” Driving along “bloody” Omaha Beach, we stop at the memorial sites and walk along the beaches where the heaviest D-Day casualties were incurred. We will visit the American National Cemetery at Omaha Beach - pay your respect to the soldiers who fell for the liberation of Europe. On Memorial Day we will attend the ceremony. Tonight, join our Norman gourmet dinner at the fishing village of Courseulles sur Mer.
